Hey Allison! Ewa and I just wanted to thank you again for making our wedding such a great time! Right from the moment we arrived at the reception, we knew we were in good hands. We are still talking about how fun it was and how we wish it never ended-- it went by so quick, and when you started to mix it up, it was just partaay time! The feet just had to move. All our family and friends loved the music selection. Ewa and I are so grateful to have met you, and we couldn't have been happier with the way things turned out. We were glad you were a part of it. Go Dukes! :) Love, Ewa and Eric
"When it came time to party, Katie did it right! Hank Lane was in charge of the music..." - Perez Hilton
There was a lot of interest and press coverage on the wedding this past weekend in the Hamptons of broadcast journalist Katie Couric and businessman John Molner. As one of a small group of people who worked on this happy occasion and who was actually there, I thought I would share some of the musical (and other details) with our readers. Florist and wedding planner Elissa Held was in overall charge of the festivities. While the groom worked on a lot of the details himself, Katie was very involved with the music. In a meeting at the Hank Lane Music New York City office, she told me that she used to play piano for ten years and it turned out that she not only had great taste in music, she really knew her stuff! The wedding was an intimate one at the couple's East Hampton home with approximately 50 guests. The bride personally chose to have a violinist, guitarist and cellist to play while her guests gathered before the ceremony and for the small wedding service. She wanted a mix of Beatles, some Classical music and even something from some movie scores. Katie's 18 year old daughter Carrie chose to sing at the ceremony ("I Will" by The Beatles in the style of Allison Krause, complete with banjo and mandolin played by our musicians) which followed poetry readings by her older sister Ellie and the groom's daughter. The bride and groom exchanged some amusing "vows" as the minister officiating the ceremony stepped aside. For one, John promised to never have more Twitter followers than Katie! Following the ceremony at the house guests were ferried over to the Topping Rose House in Bridgehampton. I was asked to make special Ipod playlists (Motown was her favorite) for the 15 minute ride to the beautiful reception venue. There, the same musical trio settled under a huge tree on the lawn as guests sipped on cocktails and hors d'oeuvres. The trio played a variety of jazz standards and were joined for a few songs by the groom's father on clarinet. It was truly a family affair! Following the cocktail hour guests went in to dinner in the hotel's intimate ballroom with an Ipod playlist that I prepared based on Katie's specific instructions. The play list included Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Sara Bareilles, Sting, Ray Charles, Harry Connick, Jr., Diana Krall and Billy Joel. After dinner guests danced to the Motown playlist in the venue's rustic barn until 1Am. Here is the play list for the Hank Lane live band: PRELUDE MUSIC Arioso by JS Bach Prelude in Eb by Chopin Theme from Out of Africa Landslide And I Love Her Piano Concerto by Rachmaninoff Air on a G String by JS Bach Theme from Out of Africa Theme from Moulin Rouge (“Where Is Your Heart?”) CEREMONY MUSIC Processional: Here Comes the Sun - Beatles Bride & Groom: Til There Was You - from The Music Man (Broadway show) I Will - Beatles Recessional: Wouldn’t it be Nice - Beach Boys Posted by Harlan Ellis, Hank Lane Music
This past Saturday, our More Than Music DJ Allison had the pleasure of DJing for Katie Couric and her family in honor of her daughter Carrie’s 18th Birthday. The bash was thrown at Studio 450 and was put on by the amazing Elissa Held Events. Allison taught Katie some tricks behind the booth before the dancing began!
